General Notes:
Dear Martyn,
In answer to your question: How we came to Massachusetts USA. BTW, great spelling for Massachusetts.
My father George LATHAM SALISBURAY was born on October 8, 1907 at 2 Alfred Street, Kings Heath, Birmingham, Warwickshire to Emily LATHAM and Tom SALISBURY. He was one of three children. When I send you the genealogy on the LATHAM SALISBURYS I shall explain more. SALISBURY is one of my brick walls.
Just before my father's mother Emily died, my father and his siblings were sent to the Middlemore Home. The date was September 21, 1914 and in 1915 Dad was sent to Cape Breton, Canada to work on a farm.
His two sisters remained in Middlemore until relatives took them in. This is what is found in the Middlemore papers.
I also have the ships log etc. for my father . He went to Canada as George LATHAM SALISBURY.
Dad arrived in Cape Breton and worked on a farm with a wonderful person named Gordon MacDonald . Gordon was also an orphan and he lived with his aunt and uncle.
On July 9, 1935 he married my mother in Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada.
My brother William Gordon LATHAM born on December 24, 1936 in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada died October 7, 1937 in Children's Hospital, Halifax , Nova Scotia.
Carole (Candy) THOUTSIS nee LATHAM ...this is me...:0) born June 11, 1939 in Truro.
Gail L. SMITH nee LATHAM was born May 5, 1944 in Truro.
In 1944 my father packed us all up and came to Massachusetts USA where my mother had relatives.
We have all lived her since. My father died in 1981 and my mother in 1986.
My sister married and has two children, a boy and a girl. Her boy is married and he has two children.
Tim and I married but never had children. We do have a 15 year old Yorkshire Terrier named Chelsea who is the sweetest little dog in the world.
I hope this is not more than you wanted to know. <VBG>
I shall send what I have of the LATHAM side a generation at a time if you would like. Then I shall tell you all about my SALISBURY line.....
BTW....a side note: After tracing my mother's side back just a few generations we find her side originally came from Devon England.
Talk with you soon, Cousin Candy
