bullet  General Notes:

From John.Crofts@tesco.net

Hi Martyn

Well, we seem to have struck lucky. This Crofts branch were probably the wealthiest of all the lines.

Elizabeth(Bap Sep 27 1784) dau of John and Sarah (nee Burt)
John married Sarah 16 Sep 1783 at Church Lawford. Both signed the marriage lines in a good hand. Witness was James Crofts (also signed well, indicating good education).

Sadly Elizabeth was the only recorded child, Sarah died in 1796 (Jun 29), buried at Ch/Lawford.

John married Alice Warner as his second wife on 6 July 1797 at Bulkington. From this union we have William Sutton Crofts (bap Apr.21 1798). Elizabeth (1799) and John(1803).
William Sutton marr. Mary Warner, had John and William James.
William Sutton died 1849 leaving a large amount as follows;
Wife : Silver and Plate plus £100 per year.
John: House and land at Harborough Magna plus farm at Honell (occupied by William Kingerlee) Plus £4000.
Son William James received Houses and land at Hillmorton and Long Lawford plus £6000.

Also owned houses in George and Clarendon Streets, Leamington, also a farm at Shilton.

A VERY wealthy man !

So, back to Elizabeth. Her dad, John(bap Feb 1765) was the son of William and Elizabeth (nee Sutton, hence the Wm. Sutton later) marr 24 Feb 1756 at Ch/Lawford. Both signed the lines well. Johns siblings were: William (1757 .buried as infant)
Samuel (buried 1769 possibly with William.
Thomas 1767)
William (1770)
Elizabeth (1772. married Richard Downing)
James (1773. bur 1844)
The last named James was also a wealthy "Gentleman Farmer", no record of a wife (probably why he was well off !!) This is the James who witnessed the wedding.

Finally William (marr. Elizabeth Sutton) was probably the son of William and Elizabeth (nee Palmer) who marr. in 1733 at Monks Kirby. Also had John (1735) and Richard (died infant).

I have a will copy for this William, its too large and faded to scan into the computor but if you want a transcription I can do that.

Finally, your name only appears twice on my Electoral roll disc, are you in the Peterborough area or Barnoldswick. Yorks ?

Hope this is of interest, I have collected loads of info, but its only when I am prompted like this that I put some of it in order. It makes all those hours in Warwick R/O worth while.

Well, it's a bit late so I will sign off , Stay in touch.

John
