1854 At South Killingholme, Lincs.

Emigrated with 7 children to New Zealand in 1874. Mary and Margaret (twins) would have been illegitimate and on wedding certificate states her father is unknown. Joseph went to New Zealand with Margaret and seven children.

They were part of 200 people that left Lincolnshire for New Zealand on the 'Geraldine Paget', which arrived in Lyttelton, New Zealand 27th December 1874. The 'Geraldine Paget' was a fully rigged ship of 1200 tons and the journey took 100 days.

Brown Family settled at The Kaik, Akaroa, on the Banks Peninsula, in the South Island, New Zealand, Joseph continued working as a Labourer eventually buying a few acres of land.

Joseph died on the 1st April 1903, at his home, Grehan Valley, Akaroa, Canterbury, Margaret was still alive at this time.
