Herbert and Frank were born after the 1871 Census and before the Family left for New Zealand.

The Feudal style of farming in nthe North Wolds had not caught up with modern farming and the labourers were both poorly paid and housed. It was at this time that the population had started to become educated and realised that they were being exploited. Hunger was common, the Labourers started to hear of ' The Revolt of the Fields' which had started in the early 1870's. This coincided with the Immigration Drive for workers to go out to New Zealand. Most must have found the thought of moving to New Zealand very tempting with promises of land and paid work.

Charles' half sister Margaret had left for New Zealand in 1874 with her husband, Joseph BROWN and their seven children.
It is not known whether there was any communication between Margaret and Charles that may have lead to their leaving England but they did not settle in the same area, or even Island.

Charles, Mary and their seven children pack up and sailed from Grimsby on the 13th June 1875 on the iron barque 'Chile' and arrived at New Plymouth, Taranaki, on the 29th Sept. 1875.

more children were born after they arrived, George, 1877 and Zilpah 1882

Charles died 31th Jan 1880 in New Plymouth, Taranaki, NZ
Mary died 14th July 1919. in New Plymouth, Taranaki, NZ.

This as correct as I am able to make it at this time. It will be added to as facts come to hand
