General Notes: The Particular Baptist chapel, known as Carmel Chapel (aka The Carmel Strict & Particular Chapel), was founded in 1853 by Abraham Deacon, preacher and postmaster (from 1861), a well-known Fleckney inhabitant. It is known to have seated 40 people. A new chapel was built on the same site, in Wolsey Lane, in 1877/8. Noted events in his life were: • Census, 3 Apr 1881, Fleckney, Leicestershire. Listed as: Age 51: Occupation - Keeper Etc, Particular Baptist Minister, Carmel Chapel. Abraham married Mary Elizabeth East about 1852 in Fleckney, Leicestershire. (Mary Elizabeth East was born about 1835 in Fleckney, Leicestershire and died on 7 Dec 1873 in Fleckney, Leicestershire.) Abraham next married Fanny Elizabeth Potter about 1875 in Fleckney, Leicestershire. (Fanny Elizabeth Potter was born on 17 Sep 1837 in Kibworth, Leicestershire and died on 20 Jan 1930 in Fleckney, Leicestershire.) |
