Thomas Barnwell

  General Notes:

Jackson's Oxford Journal, Saturday October 16th, 1875:
At Clifton-mill near Rugby, some sheep belonging to Mrs. Hewitt were surrounded by the rising water, and at daylight on Sunday three men started with a horse and cart to rescue them. They were two of Mrs. Hewitt's labourers, named Barnett and Fancott, and a porter from Rugby Station, named Barnwell. They unfortunately got too near the bank of the river, the cart was upset, and two of the men carried away and drowned. Barnwell managed to get out of the current and secure a foothold, but in a position of great danger. A man named Roberts, coachman to Mrs. Sale, Clifton, mounted a horse and rode to the rescue, but the horse slipped and fell, and Roberts was also carried away and drowned.

Thomas married Eliza Kibler on 27 Oct 1846 in St Michael's, Coventry, Warwickshire. (Eliza Kibler was born about 1825 in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire.)
