Robert Barnwell

  General Notes:

Born in Balsall Heath - Lived in Silver Street. His occupation given at the time of joining the army in 1899 was a machinist. Later when joining the army again in 1915 it was a barman.

Served in the Militia from 8th May 1899 in the 4th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment (No.5330), then on 24th July 1899 joined the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons Reserve Squadron (No.4220) at Curragh Camp and was discharged as medically unfit (sprained knee) 15th January 1901.

In WW1 he was a gunner in the Royal Field Artillery, 72 Army Bd (No.161156), posted to France with the BEF, 27th April 1917 then posted to Italy, 15th November 1917 before being posted back to France 29th Mar 1918 where he was wounded in action (in the mouth) on 2nd October 1918. Buried in Lodge Hill Cemetery Section C No 8731. Death details say he was 71 when he died.

• Military Service, 9 Dec 1915, 22 Fairfield Road, Kings Heath, Birmingham, Warwickshire. No.161156 - Royal Regiment of Artillery (R.H. & R.F.A.).

• Military Discharge, 17 Jun 1919, 22 Fairfield Road, Kings Heath, Birmingham, Warwickshire.

Robert married Charlotte Haley on 20 Apr 1908 in Congregational Chruch, Kings Norton, Worcestershire. (Charlotte Haley was born about 1876.)
