Sir William Phelip

An article in the September 1835 issue of 'The Gentleman's Magazine' adds further information that helps to correct errors in pedigrees of the Phelip family. The writer quotes Hasted's history of West Greenwich or Deptford in Kent to point out that 'In the 3rd year of Henry V it was found by Inquisition...that Sir John Phelip knight, and Alice his wife, held the reversion of this manor; and that Sir William Phelip, knight, was his brother and next heir.' The article further states that in his will, made in London on 20 June 1418 and proved at the Prerogative Court in 1418, Sir John specifically referred to his 'brother Sir William Phelip'.
